Trust eludes me

Once I believed
humans were basically good

Once I believed
people were altruistic

I tended
to take folks
at
face value

Trust is ever decreasing
as thieves,
masked manipulators,
disguised liars
reveal their
true facial contours
while trying
to save
face

I think I need
to learn
to read
faces
more clearly
